Classroom Management Procedures

  • Classroom Conduct
    • Tardiness
      • Students will be in their seats and ready for class when the bell rings; failing to do so will result in a tardy mark. Three accumulative tardies will result in an after school detention, held with the teacher who gives the third tardy. The detention will be spent doing homework or an activity of the teacher’s choice.
    • Leaving the classroom
      • Students will use the designated area in their school issued planners to sign out for each time they leave the classroom. Each student has a limited amount of passes in their planner to be signed; each unused pass will earn the student  a “buckaroo buck” at the end of each quarter, which can be redeemed for a reward at that time.
    • Required supplies
      • The school will compile a list of required supplies for students at each grade level, based on teacher preference. Students can pick up the lists at their local retail stores, or access it on the school’s website. Supplies may include: zippered binder, pens, pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, loose leaf paper, highlighters, glue, and etc.
    • Note taking
      • Teachers will provide note taking guides or outlines for students based on each subject.
    • Food and drink in classroom
      • Students will be allowed a snack/drink in their classroom mid-morning. A list of approved snacks and drinks will be sent home with students, and posted on the school’s website. Food that is seen in the classroom outside of the allotted time will be held by the teacher until the appropriate snack time.
    • Cheating
      • Cheating is outlawed in our classrooms. If we have reason to believe a student or students are cheating, we will do our best to deal with the issue in the classroom. The first time caught cheating, students will have to redo the assignment. The second time students get caught, they will have to redo the assignment and only receive half of the points they earned. The third time caught cheating, students will serve a detention with their teacher after school as well as receive a zero on the assignment. For further information on what is characterized as cheating and how it will be dealt with, consult the student handbook.
  • Behavioral Conduct
    • At the beginning of each year, teachers will discuss and make a plan with their students regarding general classroom behavior. Teachers will guide this process but allow the students to be creative and build trust in their learning communities.
    • Fighting
      • Verbal and physical fighting is not permitted among students. Students engaging in such conduct will first receive a verbal warning, and if they do not stop they will be asked to visit the principal. Fights will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
    • Name calling/ Put-downs
      • Inappropriate and unwanted nicknames will not be allowed. In addition, negativity purposely used to degrade others will not be acceptable in any way, shape, or form. Students caught name calling or using put-downs will receive a verbal warning for their first offense; in addition, they will have will have to come the next day to class with 5 positive put-UPS. The second time a student is caught, they will receive detention with the teacher. Any occurrences following the second offense will be handled by administration. All issues related will be dealt within accordance with the student handbook.
    • Improper language
      • At the beginning of the year, each teacher will discuss with the students about what type of language is appropriate for the school setting. Language considered inappropriate will be consistent across all of the classrooms in the team. Students caught using inappropriate language will first receive a verbal warning from the teacher. The second time a student is caught using improper language they will receive detention with the teacher. Any occurrences following the second offense will be dealt with by administration.
    • Positive Reinforcement and Motivational Techniques
      • Teachers who see students with: good attitude, high class participation, on time and prepared for class, or commendable character may award students a buckaroo buck (which may be redeemed for a prize at the end of each quarter).
      • Each month, teachers will recognize a “Wanted” student of the month (in accordance with our western theme) in each grade and team. Students will be recognized based on their exemplary character, behavior, and academics. Students will be announced at the beginning of each month, and awarded with a certificate and announcement sent to their parents. Their pictures will be posted in the school on our “Wanted for Good Behavior” board, along with a short biography about them.
